Best of Austria - The Tour 2012
27.11.2012 20:00
Shivers of excitement, great emotions and a musical firework of hits - with Rainhard Fendrich & Band, EAV and Die Seer; all the artists that give the Austro-Pop Scene its identity appear on stage on the same evening.
Rainhard Fendrich - & Band
In 1981, Rainhard Fendrich created the summer hit of that year with 'Strada del sole', which also marks his actual breakthrough in the German-speaking region. Since then, countless songs written by him, strung together like pearls on a string, have all become 'evergreens' and count as cultural heritage. They consist of first-class texts and timeless melodies that one enjoys listening to time and time again.
Whenever there is a need to arrange a new programme for one of his sought-after live appearances, Rainhard Fendrich has recourse to the vast volume of his work that by now comprises of over 700 compositions. This is never an easy task for this gifted thoroughbred entertainer who has brought out more hits than would ever fit into a single evening.
EAV
EAV was founded in the Austrian province of Styria in 1977. Comic Rock is a sort of mixture between Rock’n Roll, socio-political cabaret and wild 'actionism' on stage. In the 80s, their success shot through the ceiling. Their hits reached the top positions in the charts as if in a steeple chase, and by listening superficially to the songs, one could have gained the impression that all of it was only jokes and fun. This was definitely not the case at that time, and neither is it today. In laid-back Austria, we have always been grand masters of indirectly getting to the heart of an issue by wrapping it into snide humour, cynicism and jokes - and then hit out from behind with a hammer. Oral 'kicks in the backside' are a tradition. What seems to be a joke at first is very often mean satire that tasts of salty honey, and that is how it should be, because that was the intention of its creator. The most famous hits of EAV are howlers only on the surface. They are now almost only understood by those who were children at the time of 'Märchenprinz [Fairy Prince]' and 'Ba Ba Banküberfall [Ba Ba Bank Robbery]'. “When we were children, we sang the songs and laughed, today, we actually understand what you wanted to say ... that is what we always hear from people at our concerts“, comments Thomas Spitzer. It is a welcome confirmation that not everything that actually moves him personally was for nothing.
DIE SEER
The music of Die SEER lives and LIVE is not 'canned'. On stage, the eight musicians, welded into an ensemble, give their best. They search for and establish direct contact with their audiences and they create an evocative, totally extraordinary show. The Seer's success and their presence in the media are only an indicator that the texts, the music and the musical performance have already proved on CD that the Seer's essence goes way beyond mere entertainment. Judged by their CD sales, they are one of the most successful Austrian bands of recent years. Their major hits like 'Wilds Wasser (Wild Water]', 'Junischnee [Snow in June]', 'Über‘n Berg [Over the Mountain]', 'Aufwind [Updraft]' and '1 Tag [1 Day]' sold like proverbial 'hot buns'. The Seer convey their joy in their own musical craftsmanship at every single concert.
